Al Diederich Obituary
Diederich, Al VISTA / FALLBROOK Al Diederich, born in Fremont, Neb., on April 11, 1926, passed away peacefully in Murrieta, Calif., on May 5 2013, at the age of 87. He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Muzzy and her husband Frank of Murrieta, Calif., and Chris Johnson and her husband Wayne of Escondido, Calif.; in addition to six granddaughters, three grandson, 16 great- grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Other survivors include his step-son, Ed Corley and his wife Laurie of Claremont, New Hampshire; and his step-daughter, Polli Oliver and her husband Dennis of Kauai, HI. Al was a 30 year radio News and Sports Director often referred to as "The Voice of North County." In his time, he was the only North County broadcaster honored with the "Golden Mike" award from the Southern California TV and Radio Association and he claimed three: Best Radio News Commentary-1965, Best Radio News Editorial-1966 and Best Regular Scheduled Newscast-1968, His military service included two tours in the Army with combat during WWII in the Philippines and a support mission on Okinawa during the Korean War. Al was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart along with three Presidential Unit Citations and 11 other "I Was There" ribbons. Before retiring in 1991, Al was the Manager of the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce for ten years. Al and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Tyrone, New Mexico in 1992 where they enjoyed retirement living for the next 13 years. They returned to North County to be closer to family and settled in Vista in 2005. In 2009, he relocated to Murrieta. Services will be held Saturday, May 11th, at 1p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 700 East Bobier Drive, Vista, CA 92084 (760) 724-7700. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Al's name to your local Humane Society.
