BRUCE HUTCHINSON Obituary
HUTCHINSON, BRUCE 1938 to 2013 Bruce Hutchinson, 74, of Solana Beach, California, passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2013. An active member in the community, Bruce lived in the area since 1984 and was cherished by many people in the Solana Beach neighborhood. Bruce was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania, in 1938 and lived in Pittsburgh until he attended undergraduate school at the University of Washington. Graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Bruce thrived as a Mechanical Engineer in the Power Generation Industry. He pioneered fluidized bed combustion, making power plants much greener, and he was awarded U.S. patent 4400150. He earned his Master's in Science from The University of Connecticut in 1967. Bruce was a valued member of many companies, including Brahma Group, Foster Wheeler and TUV Engineering Services. Outside of his career, Bruce had a zeal for outdoor activities, including hiking and biking. He loved to visit his grandchildren in the Seattle and South Florida areas and take scenic tours of the Western part of the United States. His loving family includes his wife, Karen Hutchinson, and his five children: Corey Sue Hutchinson (Colorado), Van Hutchinson (Florida), Christine Pressler (Washington), Kevin Klein (Boston) and Conor Klein (San Diego). His fabulous grandchildren, including Madison, Lindsay and Sabrina Pressler and Shalom Hutchinson, will deeply miss their Grandpa Bruce. Bruce loved his walks and quiet reflective time in the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. To remember Bruce, the family would sincerely appreciate, in lieu of flowers, a donation to the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, PO Box 230634, Encinitas, CA 92023-0634, via a check that highlights the Hutchinson Memorial Fund. Donation can also be made on the following site: www.SanElijo.org/donate with a separate email sent to debby@sanelijo.org alerting them to the Hutchinson Memorial Fund.
