Wright, Barbara RAMONA -- Barbara Wright passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2013 in Escondido, California surrounded by family and close friends. Born Barbara Jane Rickson on November 16, 1924 in Centralia, Illinois, she came with her parents to Compton, California at the age of three. She was a graduate of Compton High School and Junior College, then went on to earn advanced degrees in Nursing from UCLA and USC. She was a life-long Southern California resident of Torrance, Redondo Beach and Rossmoor, before finally retiring to North San Diego County. She spent her entire teaching career at Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington, ultimately becoming Division Chairperson of the RN and LVN Nursing programs as well as the Department of Family and Consumer Affairs. She retired in 1981 completing a remarkably influential and successful career. In retirement, Barbara especially loved reading, and was an aspiring writer. She was a member of the writers club in Ramona, California. Barbara loved people and was an active member of her community. She was quick to laugh, and had a caring and generous heart. Everyone who knew her loved and respected her. She will be deeply missed by her family, her colleagues, and her many life-long friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert F. Wright; and her daughter, Kimberly A. Wright. Surviving are her son, Thomas A. Wright; and her granddaughter, Samantha Wright of Menifee, California. No funeral is planned. A memorial celebration of her life is pending.
