Defino, Bart "Ben" ESCONDIDO -- Bart "Ben" Defino, loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend to many, died suddenly on May 15, 2013 at the age of 89. Ben was born on November 7, 1923 in Waltham, Mass. He owned "Defino's Women & Children's Clothing" store for 20 years in Waltham. For 40 years he was owner and drummer of the "Bart Stevens Band" which performed throughout eastern Massachusetts. Ben moved to Escondido, Calif., in 1978 and worked for many years as a machinist for Micromanipulator and C & H Machine in Escondido, Calif. He was a member of the Italian-American Social Club, Oceanside Senior Anglers and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1874. Ben was the most loving, caring, unselfish man who always put others before himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and a large circle of friends. He was a passionate sports fan, especially for the Boston teams. Above all, for 31 years he was a loving husband to Ann. He is survived by wife, Ann; son, Stephen Defino and his wife Paula of Oceanside, Calif., and their children, Brandi (deceased), Nicholas, Angelo, Michele and Douglas; daughter Marie Cataldo and husband Peter of North Haverhill, N.H., and children, Joseph and Anthony; daughter, Susanne Bardsley and husband Brian of Burlington, Mass., and children Steven, Michael and Melissa. He had 18 great-grandchildren. Children of Ann: daughter, Kathleen Blanning and husband William and their children, Alex and Allison of Corona Del Mar, Calif.; son, William Hamilton of Plymouth, Mass.; son, R. Daniel Hamilton (deceased); and David Hamilton and wife Robin of Northborough, Mass., and their children Sarah and Zachery. A memorial service will be held on Monday May 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mission San Luis Rey Parish in Oceanside, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the or the American Kidney Foundation.
