Cynthia M. Casebolt Obituary
Casebolt, Cynthia M. 12/01/1930 ~ 09/22/2013 SAN DIEGO -- Cynthia, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, surrounded by her loved ones. She was blessed to live an active life until two months ago when her breast cancer reoccurred. Her famous vivacious smile and quick wit was with her even through her final hours. An only child, Cynthia was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. She was a "Chi Omega" girl and earned her BA from Kansas State University. She met her future husband, Bob, on a blind date in the rumble seat of a 1934 Plymouth. They were married in '51 just before Bob was shipped off to the Korean War. Cynthia stayed with family in La Jolla while Bob was away. When he returned, they had fallen in love with San Diego, never to leave again outside of their extensive travels. Once their children arrived, Cynthia's was thrilled to become a mom and homemaker. Cynthia and Bob shared many passions, among them were family, travel, square dancing, scuba diving and snorkeling, 40 years of annual escapes to Maui, bridge, church potlucks, and camping (tent, then trailer and finally RVing during the last three decades). After the death of their son, Dale, in '64, her faith strengthened and grew through Bible studies, prayer groups and church retreats. She loved games, sewing, cooking and entertaining. Cynthia loved social interaction. She constantly welcomed newcomers. She had a multitude of friends from many circles: Delta Divers, Pt. Loma Presbyterian where she was a Deacon and Elder, Voyagers, First Pres. Church, Thursday Women's Bible Study, Early Birds, Forest Home Auxiliary, Home Bible Studies and Children's Home Society. Their square dance and RV groups included PACE, North County Squares, Jewel's Squares, Lazy Daze, and Trailblazers. Cynthia was known for her big heart and even bigger smile. She touched so many lives. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Cynthia was the light of Bob's life, center of his world for their 62 years of marriage. Together, they loved sharing in the lives of their three children, Diana (Gary) Whitney, Rob (Cathi) Casebolt, and Valerie (Pal) Berg, eight grandchildren, Scott, Heather, Tyson, Robert, Dylan, Erik, Trond and Lars, and three great- grandchildren, Elias, Juliana and Emilia. A Celebration of Life will be Wed., Oct. 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, downtown, 320 Date St., San Diego, 92101 In lieu of flowers, Cynthia requested donations be given to their church, First Presbyterian.
