LEACH, DUANE ANDREW April 28, 1934 to October 7, 2012 Born in Des Moines, IA. Duane spent his childhood growing up in small farming towns in eastern Nebraska. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served four years in Hawaii and New Jersey. After his discharge he visited Imperial Beach and first fell in love with the warm weather and, soon after, met the love of his life, Marilynn. He would never leave. They were married in 1959, started a family, and he then began his career. After working for a short time at Rohr Industries and graduating from San Diego City College, Duane found a position as an electronics technician in the Civil Service, working at the North Island Naval Base, and later at NAVALEX. He retired in 1989 after more than thirty years travelling the globe installing and repairing advanced communication and guidance systems on Naval vessels of all sizes. He then worked another seven years for the South Bay Union School District maintaining computer equipment, finally retiring in 1996. Duane loved the beach, hiking in the mountains, watching the Chargers, and working with his hands, creating numerous woodworking projects enjoyed by family and friends. His real passion though, next to his family, was serving his community, and expressing his deep faith in God by serving his church. He was a member of the San Diego Grand Jury 2006-2007, and on the Proposition X Citizen's Oversight Committee 2009-2011. At the Westview Bible Church he made himself available for any and all projects that supported the congregation and spread the Gospel. He is survived by his wife Marilynn Leach, his four children, Teresa Partridge, Layne Leach, Lisa Leach, and Jeff Leach, 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. A memorial will be held at 10am on Tuesday, October 16th, at the Westview Bible Church in Imperial Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Duane's name to Tecate Mission International.
