David Joseph Naidus Obituary
Naidus, David Joseph SAN DIEGO -- We were all blessed to know Dr. David Joseph Naidus, who passed away peacefully on June 17, 2014, just a few weeks before his 63rd birthday. Despite David's brave battle with lymphoma in recent years, he was a dedicated Veterinarian for 40 years in the San Diego East County. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 12, 1951, David was the loving son of Joseph Naidus and Agnes Duris Naidus, and brother to Douglas Naidus, all deceased. He is survived by his younger sister, Laura Naidus, who lives in Michigan. David had many aunts, uncles, and cousins, from the Naidus and Duris family who remember David's big personality and great sense of humor he shared at the many family gatherings and holidays over the years. David attended the Detroit Public Schools, proudly embracing the Motown culture, and went on to earn his DVM degree from Michigan State University in 1974. After beginning his career as a veterinarian in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, David eventually moved to sunny San Diego, where he continued his successful medical career working at the Broadway Animal Hospital, Animal Medical Center, and Cuyamaca Animal Hospital. Dr. Naidus used his gifted medical skills, humor, and charm to heal his countless animal patients, while bringing emotional comfort to their human companions. He mentored many doctors over the years, and was that special doctor who made the workplace fun, keeping his colleagues laughing for hours. It is not surprising that all the vet technicians wanted to work by David's side. When David walked into a room, he brought with him his irreverent wit, his broad smile, his subtle chuckle, and a spirit of pure joy that touched his family, friends, co-workers, clients, and even total strangers. To know David, was to love David. His many close friends will fondly remember David's love of the sun and swimming, sipping wine poolside each Sunday, as well as his fondness for cooking, cheering on the Detroit Tigers, seeing movies the day they first hit the theatre, and listening to his favorite musical artists, Barbara Streisand, Cher, and Diana Ross. Winter ski trips to "Elizabeth's Cottage" in Big Bear, or weekend get-aways to Palm Springs, always following the heat and sun, were some of David's best times with those he loved. David will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers. In the immortal words of Diana Ross, "[Our] World is Empty Without You, Babe." Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, located at 15546 Pomerado Rd., Poway, CA 92064. A reception celebrating David's life will follow. In honor of David's memory, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can visit their website at www.lls.org. Click on Ways to Help, then Donate.
