Rev.  Douglas P. Koehler Obituary
Koehler, Rev. Douglas P. SAN DIEGO -- Rev. Douglas Koehler, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2013, with his beloved wife and all four of his children surrounding him. He had lived with Parkinson's valiantly and gracefully for over 16 years. Doug was born in Oakland, CA, and then grew up in Belleville, IL. He attended college at Harvard and the University of Illinois and received his Masters of Divinity from Eden Seminary. Doug served his first church in the San Fernando Valley. He founded University City United Church in 1964 and served as its sole minister until his retirement in 1997. During his ministry, Doug was a dedicated pastor, counselor and friend. He always had an infectious laugh, a zest for life, and a deep and abiding love for his family. Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Betty, and his four loving children and their three spouses: Cynthia Troy and her husband, Mike; Megan Koehler; Craig Koehler and his wife, Yvonne; and Kristin Olson and her husband, Scott. He was the very proud grand- father of Kevin and Brendan Troy, Lexie Koehler, Courtney, Chelsea, and Ryan Koehler, and Kate and Jack Olson. He also is survived by his dear sister, Doris Johnson, and her husband, Eugene, as well as six nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 1:00 pm at University City United Church, 2877 Governor Dr., San Diego. Memorials are preferred to the University City United Church Endowment Fund or the Parkinson's Association of San Diego.
