PRAHL, GWENDOLYN H. Gwendolyn H. Prahl died on September 19, 2012 in La Mesa at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Jan Prahl. She was 97 years old and had been in hospice care suffering with congestive heart failure. Gwen Prahl, known as Peggy Prahl among family and friends, was born on February 11, 1915 in Parsons, Kansas as the sixth of seven children to John and Elizabeth Harrington. She was the survivor of the Harrington siblings. Raised in Parsons until her senior year in high school when her father retired from the MKT Railroad and the family moved to Encinitas where they had a summer cottage. She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1933. In Encinitas, she met and later married Carl A. Prahl. They lived in Los Angeles during World War II returning to Encinitas in 1946. Sometime after Carl's death in 1969, she moved to San Diego to be closer to her children, Bob Prahl and Pamela Burch. Tragically, her daughter, Pam, preceded her in death in 2002. Peggy was the first school secretary at Central School in Encinitas and later worked for the Cardiff School District before spending several years with San Diego County helping to coordinate its 6th grade camp program. In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Jan Prahl, Peggy is survived by her son-in-law, Baldwin Burch, grandchildren Eric Burch, Jill Patton, Mary Prahl, Christina Clemm and great-grandchildren Kylie Murrell and Tess Patton. "Baby Clemm" is expected in November. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. No memorial service is planned except for a gathering of family and close friends to celebrate Peggy's life.
