HENRY MOUNTS Obituary

MOUNTS, HENRY ARTHUR December 9,1927-January 22,2012 TOGETHER AGAIN Henry crossed over at 12:47 a.m. on January 22, 2012 at Scripps La Jolla Memorial Hospital, San Diego, California to join his one and only true love and wife of 47 years, Takeko Rita Nakabachi Mounts, who preceded him on April 11, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. to continue their honeymoon which began on April 19, 1956 in Yokohama, Japan. He was born on December 9th, 1927 at 7:36 a.m. in Lee Hospital, Fayette, Howard County, Missouri. The Mounts Family immigrated to California in June, 1942. He graduated from Phineas Banning High School, Wilmington, California on June 21, 1946 He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 24, 1951, assigned to 3rd Infantry Division, Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment in Korea. On Thanksgiving Day, 1951, he was combat wounded on Hill 355. He separated from the Army on January 25, 1953. He then joined the U.S. Navy on June 26, 1953, stationed at Naval Supply Depot, Oakland, California; Separation & Induction Unit, Treasure Island; USS Jupiter (AVS-8), Yokosuka, Japan; U.S. Disciplinary Command, Kittery, Maine; CINCPAC Fleet, Honolulu, Hawaii, G-10 Legal Office, Yokosuka, Japan and U.S. Navy Force Supply, San Diego, California. He was honorably discharged on February 28, 1971. He was awarded the following medals: Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Medal, United Nations Medal with two Bronze Stars, Army Good Conduct Medal and Navy Good Conduct Medal. He attended San Diego City Evening College earning an AA Degree in Accounting. He was employed as a letter carrier/router at Santee Post Office for 20 years. A volunteer at Verne Goodwin Senior Citizen Center, Mira Mesa, California since October 1998, he filled many positions including President of Nutrition Council for 2 years and received the Volunteer of Year Award in 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Maki Mounts Farr, brother, William Wallace Mounts and his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth of Redding, California, many nieces and nephews and their offspring. He was preceded by his parents, William Montgomery and Mary Ann Gintz Mounts, two sisters, Doris Mae Connor and Jean Marie Barkley, and his faithful Schnauzer companion, Oslo aka "Granddog" A member of the USS Jupiter (AVS-8) Reunion, 3rd Infantry Division Reunion, German Research Association, plus many Genealogical Historical Societies. His hobby was tracing the Mounts, Gintz and Nakabachi family histories since January 1978. He was laid to rest on January 28, 2012 at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, California, at the Veteran's Vista, Lot 246 with Full Military Honors.
