J. Rudger Brown Obituary
Brown, J. Rudger 11/21/1924 ~ 08/21/2013 OCEANSIDE Jack Brown, 88, passed away at home Wednesday morning. Although Jack grew up in San Bernardino and raised his family in Van Nuys, he and his wife, Ruth, lived at Oceanside for the last 30 years. After graduating from UC-Berkeley, Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for the Southern California Gas Company for 34 years while living in Van Nuys, where he also served in several leadership capacities at the West Valley YMCA and as an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. After retiring to Oceanside to pursue his passions for surf fishing and gardening, Jack volunteered for many years at his church, the Carlsbad Public Library, and Tri-Cities Hospital. Jack was beloved as a wise, generous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor, and his engaging smile will be missed by all. Jack is survived by Ruth, his wife of 66 years; his daughters, Kathy, Janice, and Becky; his son, Jim; and his sister, Barbara. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; and his sister, Pamela. Jack is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, September 14, at The First Presbyterian Church, 2001 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside, followed by a reception at the church.
