FINN, JOHN W. Lt. John W. Finn, USN Retired Lt. John W. Finn, USN, Retired, a Medal of Honor recipient. John W. Finn, a native Californian and life long resident of San Diego County passed quietly in his sleep at the California Veterans Home in Chula Vista, California at 5:40 a.m., Thursday, May 27, 2010. John W. Finn was 100 years old and the oldest surviving recipient of the Medal of Honor, America's highest award for bravery in combat, and the last surviving recipient of the Medal of Honor for heroic actions on December 7, 1941 during the attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. John Finn was born July 24, 1909 in Los Angeles, California. He joined the Navy in 1926, married Alice Dilts, June 18, 1933 who predeceased him. His naval service was 21 years. He is survived by his only son, Joseph A. Finn and his wife Joan; nephews, Dennis I. McAllister, Veral Shelman, John M. Finn, Mark Penny; nieces, Mary Howard Rogers, Truth Ussery Hawley, Teresa Finn Kadrmas, Deborah Finn Forstrom, and Patrice Finn McDonald and numerous great- nieces and great-nephews. A public Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010, 3:00-7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service is Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the El Cajon-Santee-Lakeside Mortuary, 684 S. Mollison Ave., El Cajon, CA 92021, (619) 440-8033. In lieu of flowers donations are requested in memory of John W.
