Obituary Condolences

BROOKS, LELAND WALTER July 23, 1947 to June 21, 2012 Lee, as his friends and family knew him, was one of nine children born in Kansas City, KS. Shortly thereafter the family relocated to Scott City, KS, where he graduated with the class of 1964. Lee enlisted in the Army in 1966, and after becoming a rifleman in the 101st Airborne Division was promptly sent to Vietnam. Nearing the end of his service he received The Bronze Star. A vehement patriot, Lee loved all activities honoring our nation and our flag. But, he loved nothing more than his Denver Broncos. A die hard fan, Lee will always be remembered for wearing his Orange and Blue on Sunday mornings. He is survived by his three sons Dallas, Travis, Trevor, and his wife Glenda. After accepting a job at Point Loma Sub Base, he has been a proud San Diego resident since 1981. An avid American Legion member and commander of La Mesa post 282 and a representative of District 22, he dedicated his time and efforts to supporting his fellow veterans and his community. After being diagnosed with several forms of cancer, Lee continued to work and participate in The American Legion affairs until joining the Post Everlasting. Services will be held July 8th at The American Legion La Mesa Post 282, 8118 University Ave., La Mesa, at 11 a.m. Instead of flowers family requests donation to La Mesa Post 282 in Leland Brooks name for ADA upgrade.
