MARGARET BROWN Obituary

BROWN, MARGARET ANN Dec. 3, 1929 to March 18, 2012 Maggie peacefully passed away at home with her four children by her side. Maggie was born in Detroit, MI, and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1952. She was one of the first women stockbrokers (later partner) in the Detroit area. After retiring, she moved to Carlsbad in 1998. Maggie was known for her adventurous spirit and love of life. She traveled to every corner of the globe, sailed, skied, hiked and biked, and made friends wherever she went. At home, Maggie devoted herself to family and friends; to such groups as the AAUW, Carlsbad Singles, Sailing Singles (MI); and to her beautiful garden. She loved the outdoors, traveling across the country in her motor home, visiting America's great natural areas. She was an inspiration to everyone, especially as she faced her illness over the last six years with courage and optimism. She is survived by sons Roger and wife, Denise Carty, of Portland, OR; Tom and partner Rodney White, of New York, NY; and Robert and wife Marcia Ryan, of Larkspur, CA; and daughter Mary Ann and husband Martin Stone, of Cardiff; and by five grandchildren, Cameron, Haverty, and Keirsten Brown, of Portland, and Erin and Garrett Stone of Cardiff. A celebration of her life is planned for April 21 at 10 a.m. at the San Diego Botanic Garden. Please wear something cheerful as we celebrate Maggie's full and vibrant life. Donations may be made to the Aplastic Anemia & MDS Int'l Foundation.

I wish I knew Maggie was near me in CA. We winter in San Diego and Chelsea, MI in summer/fall.
(we will be gone April 21.)
Your Mom was a perfect example of the power of positve thinking. I am not surprised to read of her fabulous life. I am sure she will live with you forever. Sincere sympathy to your families.

Maggie, you were such an inspiration to us all with your energy, positive attitude, and courage. I enjoyed working with you on several AAUW committees, and even more our warm friendship. You're a keeper, whether on this sphere or the next.

Mary Ann,

It's so wonderful that our Mother's kept up with each other over the years. Mine sent me a copy of the lovely tribute to your Mom in the San Diego paper. What a special and interesting life she lead. I know you must all miss her dearly but you are celebrating her life in such a joyous way.

I hope your life has been as rewarding as hers.

It would be nice to catch up with you.

All the best to your family -

So sorry to read of Maggie's passing. She was always delightful. Her attitude was upbeat. She certainly lived life to its fullest. She was one of the "youngest" octogenarians I ever encountered. The entire staff at San Diego Cardiovascular Associates will miss her smile and travel tales.
