MARIA B. "LICHA" JUAREZ

JUAREZ, MARIA B. "LICHA" Maria B. "Licha" Juarez, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2012. She had been ill for several years and is now at rest. Maria was born in El Carrizal, Jalisco, Mexico on Febuary 20, 1934. She was the oldest of six siblings. In 1956 she moved to the US and met Louis Juarez married and started a family. She worked in several restaurants in the San Diego area before eventually buying her own in North Park. She would later parlay that little restaurant into a large family style restaurant and bar in Poway. The El Comal Mexican Restaurant is a landmark in Poway ,standing in the same location for more than 35 years. She would also open one in Pacific Beach and Encinitas but the original was her favorite and most successful. Maria is survived by her four children Rene Rodriguez, Yolanda Bickham, Ruby Ibarra and Luis Rodriguez. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and loyal customers of her restaurant.
