Humphrey, Michael Hugh 10/26/1941 ~ 03/14/2014 "One equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield" - Tennyson SAN DIEGO -- Michael Hugh "Mike" Humphrey of San Diego passed away peacefully Friday, March 14, 2014. Mike was born October 26, 1941 in San Diego, California, on North Island Naval Air Station, the first child of Mary Cavin and Marion Francis Humphrey Jr. Mike's Catholic baptism scheduled on December 7, 1941, was delayed due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Mike lived in Hawaii and Santa Ana as a youngster, attending Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, and graduating from San Diego High in 1960, where Mike was a talented baseball player. Mike joined the United States Marine Corps in 1960, serving his country for two tours of duty and six years in Vietnam, including with 3rd Platoon, Charlie Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion. Mike received several commendations for his military service, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1966. Mike was active in supporting Marine Corps Veterans, and is survived by his daughter Bernadette Humphrey; Bernadette's mother, Pilar Humphrey; and two beautiful grandchildren Anna and Tommy, as well as Mike's sisters Barbara and Kathleen, and brothers Thomas, Patrick and Christopher. Mike's ashes will be interred at the Columbarium of Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.
