Michael Samuel Sideman Obituary
Sideman, Michael Samuel SAN DIEGO -- Michael Samuel Sideman died suddenly on December 9, 2013 at his home in San Diego, California. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 16, 1942 to Sidney and Fay Sideman. He attended Nettlehorst Elementary and Lake View High School. During his youth, his father was the team orthopedic surgeon for the Chicago Bears and Michael accompanied him to games and was allowed to watch the games from the bench, which was an integral part of his education. He attended Tulane University and was a graduate of Northwestern University. He received his J. D. from UCLA School of Law. His legal career began with a clerkship for Judge Edward Schwartz in Federal Court. Thereafter, he worked at Federal Defenders, San Diego Public Defenders and in private practice. He was an avid traveler and student of the world as well as a dedicated runner who participated in several marathons. Well read and erudite, Michael had a finely tuned, acerbic wit which was very often irreverent and accurate. His many friends will miss his conversational gems which were delivered with his characteristic sideways grin and his nearly raucous laugh. His wife, Donna Dunivan Sideman of San Diego, his sister, Susan Norwitch, and niece, Mollie, of the Washington D.C. area survive him. A gathering of friends is planned for 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at San Diego Cellars, 2215 Kettner Blvd., San Diego, 92101 to remember him.
