Virginia Morin Obituary

Morin, Virginia May IMPERIAL BEACH Virginia May (Olson) Morin died on May 5, 2013, from her long and arduous battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. "Ginny" was born July 12, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She married Joseph D. Morin in 1945, and was widowed in 1985. She is survived by her sister, Loraine Springowski; brother, Donald Olson; her six children and their families: Jeffrey and Andi Morin, Lizabeth and Larry Contant, Mary Jo and Terry Ross, Dana and Bob Maxwell, Danny Morin and Joel Morin. Ginny moved to Imperial Beach with Joe and their family in 1961. A sailor's wife, she reared their six children for long stints by herself. An artist at heart, she sketched her family and painted her walls tomato-red decades before it was fashionable. She loved music and sang loudly while hanging laundry outside, much to her children's chagrin. She encouraged reading and brought arms full of books home from the library (only Danny refused). She was a custom dress maker extraordinaire and would sew anything from high school formals, head liners for neighborhood hotrods, fantastic Halloween and holiday costumes, upholstery for any piece of furniture, clothes for her brood, of course, to pot holders and dish towels for the local rummage sales. She was active for many years with military charitable organizations like the Fleet Reserve Association Ladies Auxiliary and its' Widow's Mite. She lived her last six years at Erachel Board and Care in Bonita. Her family is eternally grateful to her caretakers at Erachel, Dr. Mushrik Kaisey, her most compassionate gerontologist and Season's Hospice for their services, all so loving beyond the call and yet so professional. Ginny's ashes will join her husband's marker at Fort Rosecrans at a private family memorial on her birthday. Her family will delight, if you raise your glass on July 12, 2013, and give a toast to Virginia May.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother was such a wonderful person. Although it has been many years, I remember all the fun times we had at your house with all the neighborhood kids like it was yesterday! My prayers and blessings to out to the rest of the family.

Ginny was another mother to me, to Janet, to all the friends of her kids. Her home and heart were open to all of us, and memories of our youth/time spent together are colorful and plentiful. She was steeped in grace, loved beauty and shared that love freely. I'm so glad she made Joe buy the house at 1020 Oneonta!
