Walter J. Luxenburg Obituary
Luxenburg Walter J. SAN DIEGO-- Loving father, Walter J. Luxenburg, passed away quietly on May 13, 2013, with his children at his side. Born on February 28, 1919, in a Minnesota farmhouse, he was a man of many parts: He attended Iowa State Teachers College and then UCLA where he earned a Masters Degree; during WW II he was an Army aviator serving in the South Pacific and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant; he taught at San Diego City College for 30 years; was a textbook writer and publisher; he built a home in Point Loma for his family, filled it with furniture of his own design and construction and then painted landscapes to decorate the walls; he loved baseball, was a devoted Padres fan and coached Little League and Pony League baseball where he had several Regional All Star teams. His wife, Phyllis, of 67 years, preceded him in death on November 4, 2011. He is survived by his children Judy Thomas, John and Larry Luxenburg (Laurie), sister-in-law Jane Tody (Joe), grand- children Jeff Thomas, Katie Luxenburg, Emily Waldman (Kerry). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Loma Portal Little League. "Thou thy worldly task hast done, home art gone."
