BEDNAR, ROBERT Robert H. Bednar passed suddenly, but peacefully on Monday May 21, 2012. He was active until the end and was taking a walk at the time of his passing. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Born and raised in Dupree, a tiny rural town in South Dakota, he and his wife Ruth settled in San Diego in 1954. They were high school sweethearts and were married for 67 years until Ruth's passing last year. Bob maintained a CPA practice in San Diego for over 50 years, and was working through 2011. He was a veteran of WWII and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific arena. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his family, including his daughter Claudia, husband John and their two children, Erik and Emma; and daughter Bobbie Bednar and her three daughters, Kelsey, Phoebe and Cecily Schmidt. Throughout the years, he and Ruth were avid bridge players and active with the Presbyterian Church. In his later years, Bob was an amazing caregiver for Ruth, and volunteered his gardening expertise at Arbor Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bob took up square dancing again in his 80s and enjoyed his dancing on Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings. Sensitive and shy in his youth, Bob became very outgoing in his later years. He will be deeply missed by his family and many, many friends. Memorial Service will be on Friday, May 25, at 3:00 p.m. at Featheringill Mortuary, 6322 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego. Donations may be sent to St. Joseph's Indian School, South Dakota website: www.stjo.org
