JOHN H. ARMSTRONG Obituary
ARMSTRONG, JOHN H. John H. Armstrong was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. Survived by his wife Lucille, daughters: Lisa Sarrail, Holly Armstrong, sisters: Ceil Diedrich, Verna Brill and Ellen Kubiak (and spouses). John was close to his niece Kathy Kime and nephews Steven Stokes and Bill Diedrich Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. Born on February 8, 1933 in Niles, MI, he was one of 11 children born on a small farm, raised by a widowed mother. He attended Niles High and graduating in 1952. He received a football scholarship to Michigan State Univ., wishing to study medicine. In Scottsdale, AZ, he met Lucille Slate and they struck up an immediate romance. John and Lu married in an adobe house in Santa Fe, NM. They resided in San Diego for the past 45 years. John was a meat manager for Safeway and Vons. He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling to Hawaii, Las Vegas, visiting friends, and donating his time to UCSD Transplant Support Group and St. Vincent De Paul's Church. John was given another chance at life in 1991 when he received a new heart by the gracious donation of Connie Terrell's family. If not for her precious heart and UCSD giving him another 21 years of blessed life, he would have missed out on many beautiful moments. John passed away peacefully on October 7, 2012 at the age of 79. He is missed and remembered for his love of life, family, friends, God, humorous stories, and generosity to those less fortunate than him. Memorial Mass and Reception at 10:00 a.m. on November 16th at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 11451 Blue Cypress Drive, San Diego, CA 92131.
