Kay attended Cajon Valley Grammar School, Grossmont High School and San Diego State College. During school days, she worked at the old El Cajon Theatre on Magnolia Street. Kay also worked for a dentist and counted "ration stamps" for a meat market during World War II. Kay and Jack Morse were married in 1945 in Minneapolis where Jack was stationed with Navy. After the war, they bought a house in El Cajon and began raising a family. They were later divorced. Kay worked as a bookkeeper for Intercity Soils and later worked for the county of San Diego until her retirement in 1991. Kay loved a good book, the preforming arts and chocolate.
