William A. (Bill) Buerger Obituary

Buerger, William A. (Bill) 03/16/1919 ~ 12/03/2012 OCEANSIDE -- Bill passed away at home at the age of 93. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., son of Ambrose Buerger and Bertha (Babette) Hoffmann. Bill began his career in the aircraft industry building airplanes, followed by two years as a B-17 Tail Gunner in WWII. After the war and a brief return to the aircraft industry, he developed numerous greenhouses, embarking on a lifelong passion in the flower industry. In 1966, Bill met Anita McCulloch, who soon became his wife and partner in various successful businesses. Bill enjoyed significant acclaim for his efforts as an employer to his many employees and at home as a husband and a "father" to the many beloved cats he and Anita cared for so deeply. Bill retired in 2004 at 84 years of age, but continued to pour his heart and soul into flowers and plants cultivated with such care at his home in Ocean Hills Country Club. Bill is survived by his wife, Anita Buerger; foster son, Rene Van Rems; grand nieces, Monique Opstad, Yvonne Oltmanns, and Jodene Smith; great-grand niece, Sheena Opstad; loving family members, Allen and Monique Benson; and God-daughter, Desiree Benson. Bill is now at peace with Our Father in Heaven and will forever be in our hearts. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 13, at Mission San Luis Rey Chapel in Oceanside, with burial to follow at the Mission Cemetery. Flowers will be welcomed.
