MARGARETA MULLEN Obituary
MULLEN, MARGARETA Margareta Mullen was born on May 3, 1935, and passed into the Hands of God on December 23, 2012, surrounded by her family. The cause was a stroke. She was born Margareta Sjostrand in Stockholm, Sweden. She came to the United States in 1957 for a planned two-year trip to work, see America, and then return to Sweden. While visiting a friend in Oceanside, California, she met the love of her life on the beach - a handsome young Marine Corps officer named Thomas E. Mullen. They were married in 1958, had four children, and settled in La Mesa. Besides raising four children, she worked at San Diego Transit for many years, was very active at the Swedish House in Balboa Park, volunteered at the Courthouse, helped with older people in need, was a Team Mother for countless sports teams for her children, and became famous in La Mesa for biking her way nearly everywhere. Margareta was a great cook, avid reader, walker, roller-bladed well into her 70s, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was one of the most selfless people one could know - completely devoted to her grandchildren and caring for them whenever possible. She is survived by Thomas Mullen, son John (Michelle), son Michael (Julie), son George (Ester), daughter Eva (Eric), grandchildren Netanya, Ashley, Nikki, Michael, Joey, and her sisters in Sweden, Charlotte Wallander and Elisabet Soderbaum. Though she had too many friends to mention here, we want to recognize her dear friends Shirley Heath, Muriel Lowe and Sheba Schultz who meant so much to her. Margareta was unique in that she was almost always a happy, positive, youthful and vibrant person. In Margareta's written words about this eventual day, "Don't be sad. I have lived a wonderful life and am so proud of you. See you! Love, Mom / Margareta" Please keep Margareta in your prayers. She is now with the Lord but will forever be in our hearts.
