BALUYOT, D. CONSOLACION November 30, 1908 to Jan 15, 2013 Maria Consolacion D. Baluyot, 104, a retired teacher for 33 years in the Philippines, died January 15, 2013 at the Windsor Gardens Convalescent Home where she lived for almost 10 years. Everybody called her Nanay or Nanay Connie. Nanay Connie was born on November 30, 1908, in Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines, the second child of Mariano Y. Daran and Maria D. Mariano. They lived in Dupax, Nueva Vizcaya. A precocious child from an early age, she showed her gift for spelling and language and won all the competitions in those categories against older students. Following high school and taking courses to allow her to teach, she began teaching in March 1931 and on April 9, 1932, she married Eugenio D. Baluyot. She was the first teacher of her children. Teaching during the day, she went to night classes and finished a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Education. Connie Baluyot, widowed in November 1973, came to the United States in 1975. She worked for the Norfolk Public Health Department and when she moved to San Diego in 1978, she worked for the California State Employment Development Corporation. She also did volunteer work and wrote articles for senior citizen newsletters in Norfolk and San Diego. Connie became an American citizen on August 22, 1980, in San Diego. She loved to read and write as well as gardening, dancing, traveling and doing needlecraft until she could no longer do these hobbies. Survivors include her three daughters, Vi Baluyut of Washington, DC.; Evangeline Baluyot Egaran (Jesse) of Chula Vista, California; Lolita Baluyot-Pasibe of Naga City; son, Jimmy Baluyot (Conchita) of San Isidro Nueva Ecija; daughter-in-law Luzviminda Baluyot of Bulacan, all in the Philippines, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
