Bernice L. Malloy Obituary
Malloy, Bernice L 09/15/1924 ~ 01/17/2013 CARLSBAD -- Bernice Malloy died peacefully in her sleep January 17, 2013 in Carlsbad, California. Dynamic and popular, Bernice led a rich and diverse life. She grew up in Deckerville, Mich. She attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a degree in Sociology (Class of 1947). In 1948, she married Homer Forrester and moved with him to Ithaca, NY, where she concentrated on raising their young family while he earned his law degree at Cornell University. Following several years in Sandusky, Mich., a city where Homer served as Prosecuting Attorney, "Bernie Lou" and he settled in Phoenix in 1957. There she became active in the League of Women Voters and earned widespread affection and respect for her effervescent personality, her hosting, and her flair for fashion. Shortly after she and Homer divorced in 1964, Bernice drew upon these attributes, as she established a self-sustaining, professional life for herself in San Francisco, working as a buyer and fashion adviser for I. Magnin, while also pursuing and earning a Master's degree in Social Work at San Francisco State University. She went on to work for the State of California, as a caseworker in Adoption Services in Stockton. It was there that she met Dr. John Malloy, a San Joaquin County Mental Health Services psychiatrist. Sharing a love of the arts, education, family, and altruistic careers, they enjoyed twenty wonderful years of marriage. Bernice moved to La Costa Glen in Carlsbad, in 2008, to be closer to her daughter, Heather Forrester, who lives in Vista. Bernice is also survived by her granddaughter, Lindsey Forrester Archer (Washington, D.C.); her son-in-law, Robert Archer (Vista); her stepsons, Dr. Craig R. Malloy (Dallas) and Ronald C. Malloy (Stockton); and her stepdaughters, Anne A. Malloy (Elk Grove), Joan A. Pingitore (Piedmont), and Susan F. Towne (Sacramento). Bernice's son, William G. Forrester of Lake Havasu, Arizona pre-deceased her in 1998.
