IRENE NAISMITH Obituary
NAISMITH, IRENE Irene Naismith, 86, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013, in San Diego, California. Born in Scotland and a resident of San Diego for more than 50 years, Irene was very active in the Scottish community. Born July 13, 1926, in Glasgow to Donald and Morag Kennedy, Irene enjoyed school and was active as a runner, a field hockey player, and a Sea Ranger. She met her future husband, James, in Glasgow and they married in 1945. They immigrated to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1947 and then moved to Toronto where they had three children. The family moved to San Diego in 1959. Irene worked in real estate and was a leader in the Scottish community through the House of Scotland in Balboa Park, the San Diego Scottish Highland Games, the Daughters of Scotia, the Daughters of the British Empire, and the Robert Burns Club. Irene enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, genealogy, and leading a full social life with her many friends. Irene is survived by her son, Campbell and his wife Margo Naismith, of San Diego and by her daughter, Sheila and her husband Eddie Ramsay, of Clydebank, Scotland. She has four grandsons, James, Drew, Ross, and Colin. Services will be held Saturday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kensington Community Church, 4773 Marlborough Dr., San Diego 92116. A reception will be held following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the House of Scotland, Naismith Memorial Fund, 65 East Shasta St., Chula Vista, CA 91910.
