JEAN AUGUST DeMEULES Obituary
DeMEULES, JEAN AUGUST Jean August DeMeules passed away suddenly on January 20, 2013 in Vista where he lived for 11 years. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 14, 1928, Jean graduated De La Salle High School (1946) and also attended St. John's University, College-ville, Minnesota. He served several years on active duty in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Jean relocated to San Diego in 1963 with his wife, Anne and four children. Having begun his career in the family business, Standard Iron & Wire Works, he continued this line of work on the west coast eventually starting his own business, SAAFCO, in 1978, which became the second largest supplier of miscellaneous ironwork in San Diego County. Jean retired in 1990 and loved playing tennis, spending time with his eight grandchildren (known for reading them the telephone book and telling tales of pygmies when they were young) and volunteering at San Diego Hospice and later Tri-City Hospice as well as traveling the world. Jean was much loved by his family and many friends and will be remembered for his supportive and generous nature. He was preceded in death by his father Roland DeMeules, mother Martha Emond DeMeules, second wife Audrey Hoskins, and brother Pierre. Jean is survived by his longtime companion Alice Fisher, stepdaughter Denise Hoskins, first wife Ann Myers, four children: Jim DeMeules, John DeMeules, Julie DeMeules, and Jane Thompson, eight grandchildren, four great-grand-children, sister Marie Southgate, brother André DeMeules, and 10 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to San Diego Hospice 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego 92103.
