DAVE SUOR Obituary
SUOR, DAVE 1949 to 2013 In Loving Memory Your Memory Will Live On In Our Hearts February 4, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was 64 years old. Dave is survived by his sons David and Michael, his brother Butch, his sisters Joann and Patti, nieces and nephews, and his fiance, Valerie Bourus. Dave was born in Buffalo, New York, spent several years in St. Petersburg, FL, until his family moved to and settled in Portland, OR. Dave graduated from Grant High School and began his college career at Portland State until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served gallantly in the Vietnam conflict where he was wounded, twice, earning a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf. On his last day in Vietnam, although wounded himself, he saved several members of his company and for this action was awarded a Silver Star. When he returned to the States and recovered from his injuries, he married his high school sweetheart, Julie. Julie and Dave bought an old school house on Dixie Mountain outside Portland. Dave remodeled the property for years until it became a beautiful home ready to welcome the births of their two sons, David Edward and Michael William. Dave was a general contractor and built homes in Portland from 1971 to 1985 when Dave, Julie and the boys moved to San Diego. They settled in Carlsbad where Dave established a plumbing business. After he closed that business, he went to work for several contracting companies including R. E. State and Ahrens Corporation. For the last eleven years of his career, Dave worked for Alpha Mechanical Heating and Air Conditioning. At Alpha, Dave was a key member of the team. He encouraged the company to take on very challenging projects. His skill, talent and understanding of all phases of general contracting and his ability to motivate crews and sub-contractors were instrumental in helping Alpha to grow. Dave was funny, friendly, professional and witty. He was an inspirational teacher. He was always curious and continually challenged himself. His attitude motivated those around him. Dave loved his family and friends. He was an amazing dad and a loving friend. He had a natural ability to play music by ear. He was accomplished on the piano and guitar. His dream was to shoot a round of golf under 70, which his sons say could have only been accomplished if he quit at the 11th hole. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Mexico with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Please join family and friends in a Celebration of Life Saturday, February 16th 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 7918 Calle Posada Carlsbad, Ca 92009.
