DOYLE V. BLACKWOOD Obituary
Doyle V. Blackwood of Chula Vista, CA, passed away on February 11, 2013 with his family by his side, after a long heroic battle with Alzheimer's disease; he was 86. Doyle was born in Santo, Texas on August 23, 1926 to parents, Isaiah and Ruby Blackwood. He graduated from Kearny High School in San Diego. Doyle honorably served his country during World War II (Army Air Corp) and during the Korean Conflict (Army). Obtaining his pilot's license at a young age, Doyle's passion for flying led him to work as a commercial transport pilot delivering new planes across the country to their owners. In 1952, he took a job at North Island where he started a new career in printing. It was there he met the love of his life, Lita, wife of 60 years. Doyle continued in the printing industry, opening his own business, Crest Offset Printing, in 1956 and building it into what has become one of San Diego's oldest and finest printing corporations. He remained as CEO of the corporation until his retirement in 1995, turning over the reins to his son (Barry) and daughter-in-law (Rebecca). Doyle enjoyed spending time outdoors, he loved being out on the ocean, fishing on his boat Miss Kathy, named after his daughter Kathleen, with whom he shared a special bond. His passion for family was evident in the way he lived his life, always there for the ones he loved. He will be deeply missed. Doyle is survived by his wife, Lita, of 60 years; sons Brian (Jill), and Barry (Rebecca), daughter Kathleen and grandsons Andrew and Erik. A private celebration of life was held February 24, 2013.
