In 1956 her first daughter, Susan was born, followed by Leslie in 1958 and Andrea in 1962. She began a fifteen year association with the Old Globe theatre receiving an Old Globe Atlas award in 1983. She served as president of the Navy Doctors Wives Club and subsequently served as president of the Doctors Wives Club of the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. Audrey was on the board of Voices for Children and was one of the first in the San Diego area to take puppies and kittens to convalescent homes, driving the van entitled "Tender Loving Zoo" to multiple facilities in the county. This was a reflection of her lifelong love of animals. In later years she was heavily involved with activities at Aseltine School for neurologically handicapped children, serving on the board there for many years. Audrey is survived by her husband of sixty years Dr. Donald Kaufmann. Also surviving are her three daughters, Susan Suarez, Leslie Baker, and Andrea Campbell, all of the San Diego area. She leaves five grandchildren, Whitney and Haley Baker, and Hunter Reed (children of Leslie) and Audrey and Burke Campbell III (children of Andrea.) A Memorial Celebration will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Aseltine School or the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
