William C. Ijames Obituary
Ijames, William C. VISTA William C. Ijames passed away March 26, 2013. He was born December 31, 1924 in Mocksville, North Carolina, son of the late Clyde and Ruth Ijames. William enlisted in the USMC in 1942 -1972, a 30-year career with two tours of duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He received a letter of commendation from Admiral W. F. Halsey, and retired in 1973 as an MGySgt in USMC. In 1944, William married the love of his life, Doris L. King. They moved to California in 1955 and after retiring from the USMC, purchased a second home in San Felipe where Dottie and he enjoyed many great times with family and great friends. He is survived by his wife, Doris of 68 years; a brother, Bob Ijames of South Carolina; son, William C. Ijames II; and daughters, Dyane Crigger, Susan Ijames; and five grandchildrens, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild. William was a member of the Vista Elks Lodge #1968 for 45 years. He served as Vista's Exalted Ruler in 1972-73 and 1975-76 and went on to be California & Hawaii State President 1991-92. In 2007-08, William served as National Elks Association Esteemed Loyal Knight. William had a great love for children with needs and worked with Vista Unified Schools to put on an annual Christmas party for over 300 children for the last 25 years. A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday April 14th, at the Vista Elks Lodge.
