Carolyn Green Pembleton Obituary
Pembleton, Carolyn Green SAN DIEGO -- Carolyn Green Pembleton passed away peacefully on May 7, 2013. She was born December 17, 1928, in Lapeer, Michigan, the third of five daughters. She was raised on a farm in Lapeer and graduated from Lapeer High School in 1946. Carolyn attended Central Michigan college but transferred to Michigan State University after she married Thomas K. Pembleton in 1949. Carolyn and Tom moved to Santa Barbara in 1959, then to San Diego in 1960. After arriving in San Diego, Carolyn enrolled at San Diego State, and was happy to complete a B.A. in Home Economics and her teaching credential, since having a college degree had always been important to her. She taught home economics for many years at Memorial Junior High and Roosevelt Junior High, then completed further coursework and became a guidance counselor at Roosevelt Junior High. She really enjoyed the children she worked with over the years and came home from work with many stories. In 1975, Carolyn and Tom moved to London, England, because of Tom's job transfer with International Harvester. They lived in London for almost three years and had the opportunity to explore England and travel to many other countries. It was a very memorable time for both of them. When they returned to California, they lived in Mission Beach, and Carolyn enjoyed sewing/stitching, music, bike riding, sailing, water exercise at the Plunge, and volunteering with the Mission Beach Town Council. During this time, they had many friends come to visit and Carolyn loved to interact with their friends and their kids' friends. It was a very lively time in their lives. When they moved to Mount La Jolla in 1989, Carolyn began to take art classes at Mesa College and ended up being very interested in painting, which she loved. She and Tom travelled quite a bit, especially enjoying their many trips to Spain and Portugal. Carolyn lived with Alzheimer's Disease for the last several years of her life. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-four years, Tom. She is also survived by her son Tom, Jr. and his wife Denise, her daughter Val and her husband Mark. Carolyn was very proud of her grand- children Dan and his wife Britt, Marea, and Lani and great-grandson Bennett. A memorial was held at El Camino Mortuary in Sorrento Valley. Family requests that memorial donations be made to the of San Diego.
