Joan Robinson Obituary
Robinson, Joan 07/14/1932 ~ 06/30/2013 SAN DIEGO -- Joan Robinson was a remarkable woman. She made the Olympic trials for swimming when she was just 18 years old. She won an airplane in a raffle at age 14 and leveraged the money from the sale of the plane to pursue and graduate with a chemistry degree; at a time when less than 20% of women went to college. She treated people with the same love she had for life. Joan went back to work when her youngest was entering Jr. High; working for a welding company as a secretary. She found it boring and decided to learn welding; which led to her becoming a welding instructor and owning her own business. Joan was a talented artist and made beautiful paintings, and sculptures for her home and family. Another favorite pastime for her was hosting dinners for her family and friends. She is survived by her 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. Today, Joan celebrates her 81st year with her late husband, Richard, and her parents. Joan possessed a wonderful sense of humor and could always make those around her laugh. She was the matriarch of the family and we were grateful for her leadership. Please join us in honoring Joan's life on Friday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. (flowers can be delivered between 1-2 p.m.) at the NTC North Chapel at Liberty Station, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3-6 p.m. at Barracks 17 Liberty Station.
