Norma Lee Peterson Obituary
Peterson, Norma Lee ALLIED GARDENS -- Norma Lee Peterson was born on August 22, 1930 in Boone, Colorado. She was the only child of her parents Herbert William Gray and Ora Mc Daniel Gray. Her father was a high school teacher and coach and her mother was a homemaker. Norma lived in Kansas for most of her life before moving to California in 1950. She was the valedictorian at her junior high school graduation. She played the piano and clarinet and was a cheerleader her last two years at Holyrood Rural High School. Norma attended National Career Schools, a business college, in Omaha, Nebraska, taking secretarial training after high school. In 1951, she moved to San Diego to live with her cousin, Virginia, in Ocean Beach. Through an employment agency she got a job as a switchboard operator and receptionist at Kettenburg Boat Works in Point Loma. It was there that she met John Peterson and a loving romance began that lasted over 60 years. They were married on September 27, 1953. In 1954, the newlyweds moved to Allied Gardens where Norma lived until her passing on July 5, 2013, after a short hospital stay. Norma was proud to be the mother of daughter Susan Lee Peterson (O'Brien) and son Jim Peterson as well as the proud grandmother of Shannon and Casey O'Brien. She dearly loved her son-in-law Jeff and her daughter-in-law Wendy. Norma was active in PTA, a Little League and Babe Ruth Team Mother, Bluebird Leader, an avid bowler for over 30 years and she loved her Jazzercise class. Norma enjoyed family camping for many years before she found out about cruises and weekends at Club Circle in Borrego. She was a member and Deacon at Palisades Presbyterian Church for many years. Norma will be dearly missed by her family and friends but a belief in a hereafter together again will make our loss more bearable. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Zion Avenue Community Church in Allied Gardens on July 27th at 11:00 followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Norma's favorite charity, New Entra Casa., a faith based home for female ex-offenders turning their lives around. Address is: 3575 Pershing Drive, San Diego, 92104.
