Darling, Robert "Bob" Morrow OCEANSIDE -- Born November 24, 1924 in San Diego, CA, and passed away on September 16, 2013, due to complications from COPD. Bob attended schools in San Diego, Lemon Grove and Julian. Bob quit San Diego High School as a junior and enlisted in the USMC on December 14, 1941, just 7 days after Pearl Harbor. He served two years in the Pacific mainly in the defense of Midway Island. He attained the rank of Staff Sgt. which provided him the means to marry in December 1944 the love of his life, Bonnie Lee Brown, a senior and big band singer at Grossmont High School. Upon completion of his 4 year hitch in the Marine Corps, Bob entered the University of California at Davis where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agricultural Education. He taught for several years in Northern California before returning to San Diego County in 1961. He was employed as a teacher by the Carlsbad High School District until his retirement in 1980. Bob and Bonnie spent much of their retirement years traveling which included touring the U.S. in their motor home, a cruise to Alaska and a European vacation. He also spent considerable time on other interests such as gardening, genealogy and working crossword puzzles. Bob is survived by his loving wife Bonnie of 68 years and loving children Julie Bell-Gastellum, Nancy Poore, Lida Fried and Howard Darling; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grand- children; and his loyal Alaskan Eskimo dog, Lady. Services will be held at Church of Christ, 926 - 2nd Street, Encinitas, CA 92024, on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.
