Carr, Lt. Col. Frederick J. USAF Res Ret ENCINITAS -- Frederick J. Carr, Jr. passed away August 22, 2013. He was born January 6, 1923 in Wisconsin. The family moved to Pasadena in 1929. He was a graduate of Polytechnic School, Catalina Island School for Boys, and Harvard College. In World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps and spent 19 months in Tunis, Tunisia as a communications officer in the Army Airways Communica- tions System, becoming detachment commander there with four officers and 140 airmen. He founded Carr, Beedle, Hastings & Dennis Insurance Agency and Brokerage firm. He also served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of Pasadena. He and his wife Kathryn moved to Encinitas in 1986 as both loved the beach life. In the winters, they enjoyed many ski vacations with their extended family to Mammoth, Vail and Snowmass, as well as abroad once to Switzerland. As members of Lomas Santa Fe Country Club, both were avid tennis players and also played golf. Also, during retirement years, he and his wife, Kathryn, traveled around the world. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Kathryn, to whom he was married for over 60 years. He is survived by their three sons, Dr. Frederick J. Carr III of Manhattan Beach, Dr. Kenneth W. Carr of Escondido, Dr. Thomas A. Carr, PhD, economist and attorney of Boulder, Colorado; and by three grandchildren, Michael, Kristin and Matthew Carr. He is also survived by his second wife, Nancy Noble Carr, who he married in April, 2011. They had dated 70 years earlier when he was attending Harvard. Everyone Fred met loved him. He cared for his family, friends and neighbors. If there was ever a contest to find the nicest man in the world, Frederick J. Carr would be a finalist if not the winner.
