Mary Ann Shekleton Obituary
Shekleton, Mary Ann SAN DIEGO -- Mary Ann Shekleton (née Strubhar) passed away in Seattle on December 10, 2013, after a long struggle with cancer. Despite her failing health, Mary Ann continued to cherish and cultivate the many family ties and friendships that brought so much strength and joy to her life. Her outgoing nature helped her sustain lifelong friendships while also making new friends wherever life took her. She will be missed dearly by her two children, Beatrice Anita and Phillip Ross, as well as family and friends across the Western U.S., Australia and Britain. Born to Rollin and Anita Strubhar in Los Angeles in 1940, she was raised in Calexico and graduated from Calexico High School. She went on to study history at SDSU, at which time she met her future husband, Jack Shekleton, a British engineer. Marrying in 1964, they made their life in San Diego, with Mary Ann pursuing a long career as a public elementary school teacher while also raising their children. Mary Ann loved international cultures and travel, with particular affinities for Mexican music and British traditions. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, and brother Andrew. In addition to her two children, she is survived by sisters Lorraine and Yvonne and their families. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 24 at First United Methodist Church of San Diego. Flowers and donations to in her memory are welcome.
