Garner, Emma Jean Howard 02/01/1926 ~ 10/21/2013 SAN DIEGO-- Emma Jean "E.J." Howard Garner, 87, of San Diego, passed away October 21, 2013, after beating stage-four breast cancer for over seven years after her diagnosis. She was born to the late Christie and Benjamin Howard, on February 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, CA. Emma Jean graduated from Grossmont High School in La Mesa, CA in 1944. She attended San Diego State College, where she participated in the performing arts. E.J. received a scholarship to a Los Angeles acting school for her on-stage talent. Emma Jean was a member of several charitable organizations, including PEO Sisterhood, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. During her professional life, Emma Jean served as a convalescent nurse. E.J. is survived by her brother Ben Howard (Nancy); sister Diane Stevens; daughter Jane Ripley (Don); daughter Karen Garner Rivoira (Richard); son Scott Garner; grandchildren Charmie Wallace (Steve); Travis Ripley and Christie Ripley; Dylan Seaton (Marilou); Jeffrey Seaton; and great grandchildren Brandon and Kiana Wallace. Emma Jean's sister Harriet Impink passed away in 2001. The family has planned a private burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in San Diego. Visit E.J.'s website at http://memoria
