James Gilchrist Obituary
Gilchrist, James 1923 ~ 2013 SAN DIEGO -- James "Gil" Gilchrist born in Dillonvale, Ohio on August 10, 1923, passed away on December 10, 2013 in San Diego, CA. Gil joined the Navy in 1942 and was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1973 after 30 years of military service as a Senior Chief. He followed his Navy service with a career in Civil Service. Gil was a member of the Al Bahr Shrine since 1968 and was very active in their antique car club. Gil had a long life filled with loving family, extended family and a wide circle of friends. He was married for 50 years to his wife Nancy who passed away in 1995. He was subsequently fortunate enough to find another very special lady, Deloros Stephens, to share his life. He is survived by his son, Jim Gilchrist and his family; as well as his brother, Donald Gilchrist of Ohio. He will be greatly missed by the Gilchrist and Stephens families. A small private service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Also, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Escondido, CA on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
