Bill J. McAdams Obituary
McAdams, Bill J. Oceanside Devotee OCEANSIDE -- Bill, 85, died in Vista, Calif., on May 16, 2014. Bill was born in Oklahoma on May 28, 1928 to William and Ellie. His family moved to Sun Valley, California, in 1941. Bill attended Verdugo Hills High School. He joined the Merchant Marines during WWII as a teenager. He served aboard the S.S. Fordham Victory. Bill worked for the Westside Lumber Company in the Sierra Nevadas and later as a deep sea diver. In 1950, he married Patricia Matthess. They lived in Glen Avon and had two daughters, Cheryl and Victoria. Bill and Patricia were avid campers and regularly took family camping vacations. Bill worked for CED and retired after nearly 40 years as manager of a store in San Bernardino. He and Patricia first came to Oceanside in 1976. They fell in love with the city and rented every summer and purchased a condo on the beach in 1987. Bill was an active supporter of the city he loved. He volunteered for several city entities. He also supported the Oceanside Buccaneers quad rugby team. He rarely missed an Oceanside event. Bill was one of the last surviving members of a group of retirees that regularly met at the bait shop on the Oceanside pier. Bill loved the newspaper and could be seen reading the North County Times in his beachfront condo nearly every day since his retirement, 22 years ago. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Buddy Wachtstetter of Vista, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and John Soules of Hemet, CA; and grandson, Joseph Naus of Los Angeles, CA. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and brother Max. A celebration of Life service will be held in Vista, CA, on June 7, 2014, at noon. If you would like to attend, please contact the family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to www. elizabethhospice.org.
