Maria G. Feinerman Obituary
Feinerman, Maria G. 05/18/1939 ~ 06/04/2014 SABRE SPRINGS -- Maria (Ria) was born in 1939 in The Netherlands. She grew up during WWII and experienced like all Dutch people, hunger, suffering and misery. It was a very difficult period for a small child to grow up in! But she, her parents and three sisters were able to get on with life after 1945 and go to school, study and have first jobs. She did well. In 1960, she decided to go to Canada to learn fluent English and a different way of life. She emigrated with her friend, Ben. She had a great job as a secretary and translator. But the cold winters got her. After three winters, she had enough. So in 1963, again with her friend Ben, she emigrated to California-to San Diego. It was the right decision. The climate and beauty of California hooked her! For 30 years, she worked, first as secretary and later as office manager for a large arbitration firm in Los Angeles, CA. In 1997, she retired and enjoyed many fun years back in San Diego. She loved animals, supported animal causes, kept in touch with her many friends in Los Angeles and San Diego. She traveled to Holland several times to see her sisters and friends. Sadly, in 2009, it was discovered that she had breast cancer. For five years, she battled the disease with courage, but in June, on the 4th, she passed away in her sleep. She was 75 years old. She is survived by her three sisters in Holland: Hannie, Guda, Jeannette and their families; her close friends, Ben and Rick, who were like family to her; former husband, Sheldon; and her many friends in the USA and Holland. Special thanks goes out to the assisted living facility, "Las Villas del Norte" in Escondido, and "Elizabeth Hospice of Escondido." Donations may be made to the Humane Society of S.D. or Elizabeth Hospice.
