MONT VERNON - Alberta G. (Hall) Varney, 77, of Mont Vernon, and formerly of Wilton, died peacefully at Home, Health & Hospice Care in Merrimack, surrounded by her loving family on Aug. 21, 2013.

She was born in Pittsburg, on Nov. 30, 1935, to the late Vernon and Christie (Hawes) Hall. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and married her high school sweetheart, Edward D. Varney on Nov. 14, 1953.

Alberta was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom while raising six children. At the age of 50 she graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Practical Nursing and received her RN degree from New Hampshire Community Technical College at the age of 56. She was employed as a nurse by St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Milford. Known for her caring and compassionate care of her patients, she treated them all as if they were family. Following her retirement in nursing, she was employed at LA Limousine in Wilton.

Alberta enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a talented knitter, loved going to bingo and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She was a member of the Bent-Burke Post Women's Auxiliary , the Second Congregational Church and a women's bowling league. She looked forward to trips up to Pittsburg for Old Homes Day and spending time in her hometown. She enjoyed many family vacations on cruises and trips to Las Vegas. In recent years, she and her husband Edward would spend the winter months in their home in Port Richey, Fla. This November Alberta and Edward would have celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Alberta is predeceased by her parents, her brother Burton Hall, her sister Rebecca Dearth and her grandson Scott Varney. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Cynthia Crisp and her boyfriend Chip McConney, Curtis Varney and his girlfriend Gayle Perkins, Carl Varney, Christine Benson, Carol Holt and her fiancé Larry Budreau and Cathleen Varney; her grandchildren Bridget Willard and her husband Paul, Shauna Dixon and her husband Anthony, April Spooner and her husband Jay, Justin Benson and his wife Amanda, Jocelyn Benson, Brandon Doran, Keegan Holt and his wife Elise, Jillian Benson and her fiancé Malcolm Phillips, Kaitlyn Spicknell and her husband Jason, Jayma Benson, and Sara Howard and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother David Hall and his wife Elsie, her sister Verna Masters, sister-in-law Faye Hall and many nieces and nephews. She will also be truly missed by her cat Heidi.

Alberta was a 12-year breast cancer survivor. Her daughters Cynthia and Carol have walked all over the country, in her honor, in the 60 mile Breast Cancer walks. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation for their walk next year in 2014 in Philadelphia. Donations should be made out to 3-Day and mailed to Cynthia Crisp c/o P.O. SERVICES: Friends and family are invited to calling hours at the Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple St., Wilton, 03086 on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Second Congregational Church, 25 Gregg St., Wilton, 03086 at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. A graveside service will be held later that day at Hallow Cemetery, Hill Road, Pittsburg, at 5 p.m.

The arrangements are in the care of the Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple St., Wilton.
