KEENE - April G. (Hanson) McDonald, 80, of Keene, Spofford, Jaffrey and Concord died Dec. 21, 2013.

She was born in West Stewartstown, April 27, 1933, daughter of Clara Valliere with the birth name of Gertrude Jeanette Valliere. On April 27, 1951, she was adopted by Evelyn Marie (Renaud) and Arnold H. Hanson.

She was a 1951 graduate of Berlin High School and graduated in 1956 from Keene Teachers College. She taught elementary education in Winchendon, Mass., for a brief time. She was a postmaster for 21 years with the Spofford Post Office.

She is survived by a son, Richard P. McDonald, and his wife, Paula, of Milford; five daughters, Sue-Ellen McDonald of West Springfield, Mass., Maryann McDonald of Rindge, Penny L. McDonald of Jaffrey, Bobbie-Jo Norby and her husband, Steve, of Rindge, Gloria Jean Sirois and her husband, Francis, of Troy; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold P. Hanson of Nashua; two sisters, Louise G. Rivera and Theresa Valliere; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Robert Ernest McDonald, whom she married in St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord on Aug. 25, 1956, died Sept. 28, 1986. She was also predeceased by two sons, Charles E. McDonald on Nov. 6, 2011, and Mark S. McDonald on Oct. 29, 1963..

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 1 p.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch St., Keene. Burial will be in the spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Jaffrey. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home (www.foleyfuneralhome.com), 49 Court St., Keene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. McDonald's memory to St. Vincent dePaul Society, c/o Parish of the Holy Spirit, 161 Main St., Keene, NH 03431, or to the American Red Cross, N.H. West Chapter, 83 Court St., Keene, NH 03431.
