LYNDEBOROUGH - David A. Carita, 71, a longtime resident of Lyndeborough, died on July 6, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.He was born in Somerville, Mass., on May 9, 1943, a son of Anthony and Edith (Pease) Carita. He was raised and educated in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam-era veteran who served on Arctic icebreakers and in the Mediterranean. For the past 42 years, he and his wife made their home in Lyndeborough.David had been employed as a machinist at Sanders Associates, a design draftsman for Nashua Corp. and MA-COM in Merrimack. He retired from TRM Inc. in Bedford as a computer-aided designer.He served as a volunteer fireman for the town of Lyndeborough for 10 years.David enjoyed woodworking, was an avid train enthusiast and enjoyed traveling, especially by train.Family members include his loving wife, Sue Ann (Wheeler) Carita of Lyndeborough; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Thomas Wawrzycki of Webster, N.Y.; two godchildren, Ryan Harkleroad and his wife, Katie, and Erin Harkleroad; cousins Judy and John Monaco of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Jeannette and Robert LaRoche of Concord, Richard Milligan of Meredith, James Milligan of Bedford, Mass.; his beloved border collie, Nellie; and many friends..

SERVICES: There are no visiting hours. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm St., Milford.
