BEDFORD - Donald J. Cummings Sr. of Bedford, died in his home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, April 19, 2014. He was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Manhattan, N.Y., to John and Mary (Ryan) Cummings. Donald was joined in marriage with Dolores McGrath on Feb. 1, 1958. He was a graduate of Fordham University and worked in Human Resources for the General Motors Corporation, Manhattan, retiring in 1978. Donald and his family moved to New Hampshire in 1979. It was here that he and his wife started the employment agency, Kogen Personnel. In the years prior to working for GM, Donald served in the United States Air Force. It was during his years in the Air Force that he developed his love for aviation. Donald was a licensed pilot and frequently flew small aircraft in his spare time. He was also an avid fisherman and began the "Cummings' Annual Fishing Trip," with his brother, Matty, in 1983. This family tradition is still carried on today, with this year being the 31st anniversary. Donald naturally grew up a Giants fan, but with his move to New England in the late ‘70s he quickly became a strong supporter of the Patriots and Red Sox. Aside from his love for flying, sports and fishing, Donald was a loving father and husband. He will be remembered as a loving, compassionate and attentive man, who was easily approachable and accepting of all people. He was a strong man of faith and proud father who filled his life with many great people. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dolores; four children, Donald Cummings Jr., Michael Cummings, Joan Mamos and Patricia Abrams and husband Ben; three grandchildren, Caroline, Lauren, and David; and a sister, Kathleen Clarke.
