MERRIMACK - James A. Barton, 69, passed away unexpectedly May 31, 2014. He was born in Manchester Sept. 2, 1944, the son of Edgar A. & Annie L. (Williams) Barton.

Jim graduated from Manchester Memorial High School in 1963 and immediately entered the U.S. Navy. He spent two years in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and continued in the U.S. Naval Reserve for many years. He started working at Sanders Associates which was purchased by Lockheed Martin and later by British Aerospace Equipment retiring in 2006 after 41 years of service.
Jim was a great father and enjoyed supporting and mentoring his children in athletic activities including baseball, soccer, wrestling and football.
He was an accomplished woodworker having customized much of the family home and created heirloom furniture for the family.
Jim was joined in marriage with Judith A. Johnson on May 13, 1968.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Judy; three children, Stacey Tupper and husband Kirk, Mark Barton and wife Lorri, and Eric Barton and wife Crystal; seven grandchildren, Sadie and Hayden Tupper, Jordan, Lyndsey, Rylee, Amber and Brittany Barton; two step-grandchildren Nikoal Degroat and Leeann Straessle.
He was preceded in death by his brother George Barton and a sister Dorothy Southmayd.
services: A committal service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, in the mausoleum chapel of Pine Grove Cemetery, 765 Brown Ave., Manchester.
