KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - James H. McElroy, 89, of Knoxville, formerly of Laconia, N.H., passed away Oct. 16, 2013.

James was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Cambridge, Mass., and educated in Canterbury and Concord, N.H. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, and served in the Ammunition Depot and Utility Squadron in the American and Asiatic-Pacific areas. James retired in 1989 from General Electric Air Propulsion Division in Hooksett, N.H., then relocated to Sarasota, Fla., where he worked as a postal clerk in the USPS Contract Stations. In 2004, he moved to Farragut to enjoy fishing the lakes and streams of Northeast Tennessee. James was a life member of the Laconia, N.H., Benevolent Protective Order of Elks (BPOE). He was also a former member of the following organizations: Masonic Lodge, Order of Odd Fellows, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. James is survived by his wife, Jeanne Roucher McElroy; children and spouses, James and Lynn McElroy of Gilmanton, N.H., Kathleen and Jonathan Borden of Dartmouth, Mass., and Scott and Susan McElroy of Delray Beach, Fla.; stepchildren Bonnie Douglas of Chesapeake, Va., Stephen McElroy of Farragut and Jeffrey McElroy of Los Angeles; grandchildren Garth McElroy and wife Megan of Anson, Maine, Ian McElroy and wife Jody of Belmont, N.H., Andrew Borden of Dartmouth, Mass., Leanne Borden of Boston, Zachary McElroy and William McElroy, both of Delray Beach, Fla.; great-grandchildren Jordyn and Tristan McElroy of Belmont, N.H.; siblings Beatrice Hilton of Kittery Point, Maine, Margaret Boyan of Riverview, Fla., and Russell Kenney of Orange City, Iowa; special relatives to Jim, George McElroy and wife Edith of Arcadia, Fla., and Stuart Ramsay of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The family appreciates the staff of Summit View of Farragut for their compassionate care of Jim.
