HOOKSETT - John A. "Jack" Murphy Sr., 83, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 21, 2014. He was born in Concord on May 9, 1931, the son of William and Eva (Connell) Murphy.

Upon graduation from Concord High School, Jack entered the U.S. Air Force, serving four years during the Korean Conflict. Jack retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service, ending his career as a rural carrier in Canterbury. In retirement, he worked for the Hooksett Parks and Rec. Jack was very active in the Hooksett Youth Athletics Association. He served for more than 25 years with HYAA as a coach and mentor in baseball, football and basketball. Jack was Hooksett Citizen of the Year in 1987 and was honored as HYAA's first lifetime member in 1992. He was an amazing, selfless person, giving generously his time and friendship to so many, and lovingly supporting his children in every aspect of their lives. The greatest joy in Jack's life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Jack is survived by three children: John A. "Jay" Murphy Jr. and fiancée Lisa Sprague, and Jay's two children, Jackie and Robert; Tracy Murphy Roche and husband, Thomas, and their two children, Tyler and wife, Lilia, and Delaney; and Amy Murphy Boisvert and husband, Andrew, and their son, Mack; and two? sisters. He was preceded in death by 13 siblings.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., Manchester. An additional calling hour will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., at Goodwin Funeral Home.
