Salisbury - John Patrick Anderson, 82, a former Harwich, Mass., resident, died on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a short illness.

He was born in County Cork, Ireland, on Oct. 18, 1930, son of the late Thomas and Lillian Anderson.

He majored in criminal justice studies. John was employed as a police officer with the Harvard University Police Department for 35 years, retiring in 1996 as a lieutenant. He also managed a business, AA Problem Wildlife Removal in Harwich, Mass., taking care of animals.

After raising his children in Derry, the family moved to Harwich, Mass., until living with his daughter in Salisbury. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Harwich, Mass., and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Derry.

John was predeceased by his parents and his twin sister, May O'Brian. His family includes his wife of 54 years, Kathleen T. (Caples) Anderson of Salisbury; his two daughters, Mary Ellen Ploettner of Pennsylvania and Kathleen A. Anderson of Salisbury; his grandchildren, Kristine, Amanda, Walter, Dominic and Jessica; his great-grandchildren, Timothy and Kaitlyn; his sister, Lil Cotter of Fermoy, Ireland; and nieces and nephews

services: Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish in Belmont. Burial will follow the Mass in Holy Cross Cemetery in Franklin.
